Die ESA hat im Zuge ihrer Initiative EO AFRICA mehrere Aktivitäten und Ausschreibungen veröffentlicht.
EO AFRICA steht für “African Framework for Research Innovation, Communities and Applications in Earth Observation”. EO AFRICA fördert eine afrikanisch-europäische Forschungs- und Entwicklungspartnerschaft, die die nachhaltige Einführung der Erdbeobachtung und verwandter Weltraumtechnologien in Afrika erleichtert – in einem nutzerorientierten Ansatz mit einer langfristigen (> 10 Jahre) Vision für das digitale Zeitalter in Afrika.

ESA EO AFRICA ITT: “EO Africa – National Incubators”
In the framework of the ESA EO AFRICA Initiative, the objectives of the National Incubators ITT are to:
- develop and validate, together with African experts, innovative EO-based solutions addressing sustainable agricultural practices and/or drought monitoring matters at a National scale;
- involve relevant African end-user entities throughout the project and integrate the developed solutions into their operational working practices demonstrating the achieved benefits.

ESA EO AFRICA ITT: “EO Africa – Explorers”
In the framework of the ESA EO AFRICA Initiative, the primary project aim is to develop and validate innovative EO analysis techniques focused on sustainable agricultural practices and/or drought monitoring matters, utilising:
- the NASA ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS) data, and/or
- the ASI Hyperspectral Precursor of the Application Mission (PRISMA) mission data.
The project also requires the deployment of a demonstrator involving relevant African end-user entities, called Early Adopters.
